2016 Season Recap (Evo)

Added Tanabe FSB, new tires, and cranked up the shocks. Car is now much more neutral. Tanabe FSB added more push, particularly in tight corners. Car still feels unstable though in slaloms, but overall way better. At the end of the season I increased the front camber from -2.7 to -3.3, which helped mid-corner grip…

CCSCC 11132016 – 2016 Finale!

Final event of the year today for CCSCC – brought the Evo out after fixing the brake softness to see if the brake smoking would also be fixed – it was not, and these pads are officially done. They overheated at the last track day and something about the pads on the passenger’s side just…

2016 Evo Brake Resolution

Wanted to encapsulate my timeline for the Evo brake situation this year now that it is resolved. Took the Evo to a track day with NASA HPDE 7/9-10 Brakes failed near the end of day 1 – turned out I wore one of my pads to its backing plate Got some brakes from a fellow…

Evo Repair: Brake Air Guides

A small update – was wavering back and forth a little on installing these before the end of the season. They definitely got destroyed over time at autox, running over cones etc. However, with the evo (passenger’s side) brakes smoking over the last two events, thought I’d throw them on to see if it helps…

BSCC 11062016

Penultimate event in the Evo today. Still sorting out some braking issues, and after the 2nd run the pads already started smoking. I’m going to reinstall the brake air guides, which I had been waiting on. The brakes are also a little too soft, so I’m going to bleed the brakes again one more time…

Amsoil SS Lines

Installed Amsoil SS Lines as part of a long effort to fix the brake pedal feel in the Evo. Straightforward process where the hard brake lines screw into the SS lines. Only difficulty was getting it to hold in the right position to screw everything in easily.

GAX 10232016

Had a lot of people codriving the Evo for the GAX event. The powertrain was solid, but unfortunately the brakes were showing their weakness. They actually started smoking while AD and I were codriving in the 2nd heat, so I decided to switch things up for the afternoon – I had TS run it in…

Evo Late Season Updates

Been battling a lot of things later in the season with this car, but none more so than the brakes. The latest string of upgrades haven’t nailed down the ‘air in lines’ vs ‘something wrong’ battle, but I have to say I’m very pleased with how the Evo brakes turned out. Ran into a bit…

Racing Brake Brembo Calipers

Been looking for a solution for my soft brakes since the track day – flushes, new pads, new brake master cylinder, and finally new calipers. My suspicion is that the calipers’ pistons and/or seals started to go bad after the track day, prompting a replacement or a rebuild. Had a few different options for what I…

SCCA PDX 09112016 (Evo)

Not a lot to write home about on the SCCA PDX. I found the program to be much less organized and less formal than NASA’s HPDE school, was to be expected. The PDX was a lot easier to just hop in the car and go, many times even without an instructor, though that was mainly…
