Switched back to my autox set for the stlsolo event and after the second run the driver’s side lower shock bolt (non eccentric) either broke or sheared and I lost all camber control in the driver’s side wheel. The camber would go practically straight on right-handers and went so negative on left-handers that the back of the wheel severely made contact with the shock body. It seems like most of the damage is cosmetic, but still some pretty bad contact. Both the shock body and wheel are fine however, and all bolts (camber & bottom bolt) and nuts for both sides have now been replaced. Fortunate this happened at an autox. Will test at Boeing on 5/27 and check the alignment and balance before the track day on 6/1. Fortunately managed to get off a clean run but I don’t think this event will do me any good points wise.
Things to work on (Evo):
- Better lines, car placement, earlier turn-in
- Look ahead more to fix the late steering
- Smooth out steering, one single arc for turns – build more confidence/knowledge in car placement per steering turn
