2026 VN Updates

Wanted to post about a few different updates I’ve gone through recently with the Veloster N – mostly maintenance related/QoL things:

  • Boost leak test – didn’t think there was any boost leaks, but wanted to verify – no leaks
  • Rattle found – had a marble rolling around under the carpet, pretty crazy. I could hear it rolling around various turns, and we removed the passenger side seat and reached under the carpet to find a literal marble
  • Elantra N brake air guides – the fitment isn’t quite a match to the Veloster N which has wider mounting bolt holes, but we still installed one bolt + a zip tie. Won’t be too much of a hindrance on the air flow – the VN’s OEM air guides had almost no actual guides
  • Brakes update – front and rear rotors were swapped to Centric cryo-treated blanks. The rotors were a pain to get off. On top of the screws that hold in the rotors which were a pain to remove (and had to drill one out), the rotors themselves were seized to the hub. Didn’t love how hard we hit it, but it took a lot of force to get them off. Obviously for the new install, we coated the hubs with antiseize to not encounter this issue again. The rear pads were re-used, but the front pads were swapped to HPS
  • The oil cooler: been building a custom oil cooler kit for the VN. We combined the sandwich plate from JBR (which intentionally doesn’t include a thermostat, which can fail after repeated use and stay shut), some AN lines, and a setrab 19 row oil cooler with some custom mounting points. I didn’t like how hot I saw the oil getting, even at autox. I used a custom mesh and opened up the opening right where the oil cooler will sit in the bumper. The oil cooler install did not go well the first time around. The fittings shop used NPT fittings instead of the appropriate o-ring ones, which damaged the oil cooler. More to come on this.
