This is a how-to for the 2008-2020 (Gen 2) Toyota Sequoia’s transfer case fluid change. This is also a pretty standard job, the only additional step is removing the small shield that covers the drain plug.
Step 1: Get the car up & wheels off. Use appropriate jacks & stands, and the lug nuts are 22mm.
Step 2: Remove the skid tray. There are 4 12mm bolts holding this on, 2 in the front and 2 in the rear. The drain & fill plugs are in the rear, and you can see the fill plug in the upper right corner of this picture.
Step 3: With the skid tray off, crack the fill plug open and drain the fluid from the drain plug. Close the drain plug once fluid is finished draining.
Step 4: Use a fluid pump to fill the transfer case until fluid starts dribbling out. Wait 5 minutes, and pump a few more times before closing it back up. It takes about 1.5-2qts of gear oil. All done!
