This is a how-to for the 2008-2020 (Gen 2) Toyota Sequoia’s automatic transmission fluid (ATF) change. Really standard drain and fill here.
A few notes – Toyota WS has been proven not to be a great ATF. You can search on BITOG, but most people switch to Valvoline’s ATF with zero issue. I chose to use Red Line, as I think their ATF fluids are among the best. The total system probable takes 3-4 gallons of fluid. I’m choosing to flush 4qts at a time, which I will do at regular intervals. I’ve done the full flush where I steal from the return line and completely clean out the system, but I don’t think it’s that valuable for the work. The pictures I took weren’t great, but again this job is really straightforward.
Items/Tools Required:
- 3T + jack & stands or ramps
- 14, 24, and 22mm socket
- 4qts of ATF (I chose Red Line D6)
- Fluid pump
- Drain pan
