BSCC 2019-2 04282019

Made a number of tweaks to the car based on how it felt at the first event. To induce a little more neutral handling, I flipped the RSB from the soft setting, which matched the stiffest setting on the 2018 bar, to the middle setting. I also switched to the track pads (ST43s) to get ready for the track day, and ran 1 click softer (6) in the front than the last event. I also ran the 24psi map to make sure the car would not knock during the event, since I had just replaced the spark plugs. The car did indeed rotate better on corner entry with these tweaks. However, it does still feel like I am waiting on the rear differential to finally kick in when I’m trying to put the power down.

Most importantly, I swapped out new wheels (same CE228 in 18×9.5, now with a 28mm offset) and new, 255/35-18 RE71Rs. The difference in grip between the RE’s and the RT615k+’s is huge, and also contributed to the increased neutral-feeling in the car. The tires alone are worth at least 1-1.5s over the old ones, and I’m fairly pleased with this setup. Every course is different, but I was able to claw back the 0.7s behind I was on raw time the last event, and then put another 1s on top of it for this course. The event was cooler this time around, ~50 degrees, which helped as well, as the car is always a little more neutral when it’s cooler outside.

I don’t really plan on autocrossing the Evo much after this, as the first few events were just to test n tune the car a little. After my fastest 4th run, I started losing time the next two runs. After a closer look, it seems like the biggest contributor to the loss of time was braking too late and understeering through some of the corners – way better to slow early on this car and then get back on the gas.

Things to work on (Evo):

  • Drive smoother, better lines and closer to cones – slaloms need to be closer
  • Brake early, power out.

Notes (Evo):

  • 3/10 tank
  • Camber at -3.0, -1.8 rear,  0 toe front 0 toe rear
  • 35psi all around (RE71Rs)
  • ACD (Aggressive): Gravel, Dampers 6/5 F/R, RSB on middle
  • ST43 pads front and Girodisc S/S rear
  • 2019 Runs (12 on Evo, 6 runs on RE71Rs)

2019 Run Count: 12 (+6 Evo)
