How-To for an engine oil change for the 2011 Rav4 V6. Do all work at your own risk.
Tools needed:
- Stands or ramps
- 14mm wrench
- Oil filter removal tool
- Toyota oil filter
- Roughly 6 quarts of engine oil (Amsoil SSO 0w30)
- Drain pan
Drive the car up on ramps or up on stands. I did this at the same time that I did the transfer case flush, so I was already right there:
Locate the drain pan, drain plug, and oil filter right next to it:
Drain the oil from the oil plug:
I had to use a special tool to get the oil filter off. The 3/8ths insert is for something else, and I did not mess with it or us the plastic thing that Toyota provided with the oil filter:
After draining both, I reinstalled the drain plug and new oil filter:
From there, it’s just a matter of refilling the appropriate amount of oil. I always add a little less than the total that is supposed to go in (in this case, 5 quarts) and take a quick drive around the block and refill.
Good for 15k miles/1 year!
