Feels like I unlocked something in the Veloster today – I ran 34/32 on the tires and found a pretty remarkable amount of added grip to the rear. While I still spun out my first run, which was also on a dirty lot and first heat out, and had a few drifts in my 2nd run, I was able to control the car with a reasonable amount of increased confidence. I might try a few different additional pressures – namely 33/32, 32/32, 33/31. Don’t think I want to go much lower than that.
Now for the bad part – this was maybe one of the top 10 worst autoxes I’ve ever been to. What we were told was 1 hour of running, 1 hour of working, 1 hour of running, 1 hour of working with about 15 minutes in between each heat. What we got was 1 hour of running, 3 hours (!) of working, and then I left after that, I was absolutely drained. I won’t get into all of the detail here, but it was absurd – they decided mid-heat to let the 2nd heat do all 9 runs in a row – something I’ve never seen before.
Anyway, a lot of positives to take from the weekend and will keep optimizing the car to be more competitive.
