Haven’t made a post just for my helmet, but I really love this one. It’s an Arai GP5W, which is actually on its way out of production. I have a connection in Japan snag me an SA2020 + pink/gold visor for about half of what it costs in the States. I had been shopping around for a bit – I’ve had the Pyrotect carbon fiber for quite some time and wanted to get something a little different, that I would be happy riding both on the motorcycle and in the cockpit. The GP5W is marketed as a “rally” helmet, but the key really is that the visor area/opening is so large that neither for riding nor racing in the car is my vision obstructed at all. I can’t feel any weight differential between this and the Pyrotect, and the materials inside the Arai are so much more premium and plush, and the helmet fits great on my head. I was a little worried, as Arais are known to be a little more oval than circular, but it feels great and happy for the upgrade. I’ve still got the Pyrotect as backup, but as 2025 draws closer, I’m not sure how much longer the Pyrotect will be serviceable.
