2025-0510 NJR #2 (VN)

First event on the new race setup and it was a difficult one. It’s been a long time since I’ve had an event where I didn’t get a single clean run. The good feeling in the car from the last event was gone. The new tires are known for needing a lot of heat to work – something that the VN can’t generate in the rear axle. All of the spins/loss of control in the car happened in the first half of the course, and then the car felt quite good during the rest of the run.

I think the car has the capability to be in the hunt – I just need a little more rear end stability. The raw times were closer than they were from previous events, and the tires are definitely stickier than the old RT660s. I’ve heard they get stickier as they scrub in, but as of now it’s exacerbating the balance issues of the Veloster N. I tried dropping the rear pressures by 1psi but it actually made the car understeer, so I’m going to keep it at 36/36. Instead, I’ve finally gone and made tire blankets. Cost $46 from Menards for some hvac foil and hvac tape. I’ve heard these work well so I’m eager to try them out. The rear tires felt pretty good by the middle of the run, so I’m hoping these help preserve heat in the rear tires between runs.

That said, I hit a raccoon the other night, so we are still waiting for repairs to the bumper, intercooler, radiator, etc…

Set Up (VN):

  • DS
  • 255/35-18 Vitour P1, 36psi/35psi (should leave 36/36)
  • WL 24mm RSB on soft
  • Camber at -2.0 0 toe, -1.5 0 toe
  • Brakes: Stock

Notes (VN):

  • 2025 VN: 4 autox / 0 track
  • Car is no longer balanced, way too loose in the rear. Even in the heat, in later runs the rear end would kick out during the first half of the lap.

2025 Event Count: 4 Autox
