This is a how-to for the 2019-2022 (Gen 2) Hyundai Veloster N engine oil change. This is a very straightforward job, and I imagine it would be the same for non-N Velosters of this gen as well. My plan is to use Amsoil SSO 0W30 for the non racing season, from November – March, and to either use Amsoil ZROD 10W30, Valvoline VR1 Racing 10W30, or Red Line 30WT Racing Oil for the regular autox season/summer. I actually decided to go with Hyundai’s OEM oil filter. Given the strict performance requirements of the car, I decided this would be the best route for now, though the Purolator has one readily available, and I’d actually like to try the Fram Titanium 9688 for racing.
2. Pop the hood, loosen the oil fill cap & dipstick
3. Locate the oil pan and drain plug. It might be difficult to get the crush washer off of the OEM drain plug, and overall felt super cheap/not well made. I opted for an aftermarket drain plug with the OEM crush washer. After draining, replace the drain plug.
4. Locate and swap the oil filter. The oil filter is closer to the front of the car than the oil pan, and has a hole in the undertray designed just to access it. Used a tool to remove the filter, and went hand-tight for the new filter. I also added oil to the new filter to prefill it.
5. Amsoil Signature Series is the only high quality 0W30 I’m aware of. The 2022’s at some point changed the spec from 5W30 to 0W30, but there’s no mechanical change with tolerances or anything like that. It will get 10W30 in the summer. The VN also had a minor change in oil capacity around the same time – it used to be 4.8, but my manual shows 5.07. I added exactly 5qts and it was perfect, so I’d check your manual.
6. Refill the oil (4.8 or 5qts depending on spec). Use a funnel to prevent making a mess, the coil packs and spark plugs are just under this cover. Replace the oil cap once filled.
7. Start up, let the oil circulate, cool down, and
